CP HISTORICAL SOCIETY PLANS CIVIL WAR THEME, ELECTS 2013 OFFICERS

At its regular November meeting at the Depot Museum Tuesday, Nov. 27, the Center Point Historical Society decided on the Civil War for its 2013 theme.

Listing all the Civil War veterans from the community was one of the projects chosen by the group. In 2011, at the beginning of the 150th anniversary of the War, the local American Legion compiled a list of Civil War veterans buried in the Center Point Cemetery for the Historical Society and that honor roll was read at the Memorial Day services.

Please contact a member of the Historical Society if you have suggestions for 2013 Civil War activities, or attend the group’s next meeting the last Tuesday of January at 7 p.m. at the Depot Museum. Please call Sharon Hannen at 849-1792 if you have family stories to share or artifacts to display from this terrifying/fascinating phase of our nation’s growing up.

The Historical Society also elected officers for 2013 as follows: president—Philip Andersen, vice-president—Bob King, secretary—Sharon Hannen, treasurer—Teresa Scheeler, historian—Virginia Benson. Re-elected as a Director to serve through 2015 was Linda Schlicht. Jon Novak and Lois Rowe are also on the Board of Directors.
