The public is invited to join Sierra Club members and friends for a winter hike at Mc Farlane Park guided by Leon Lindley, Naturalist and Park Ranger, on Thursday February 28.

We will meet at the bike trail parking lot at Mc Farlane Park, 13619 King Rd., La Porte City at 1:30pm. The parking lot is at the entrance of the park next to the Cedar Valley Nature Trail.

Participants uncertain of the Park location may meet at Casey's convenience store, 1604 La Porte Rd., in La Porte City. We will be at Casey's about 1:20pm. Casey's is on the east side of La Porte Rd.

This 138 acre park has over two miles of walking trails through meadows and timber. Wolf Creek and the Cedar River form the Park’s northern boundary.

The Park was originally established as a wildlife habitat area. We hope to see wildlife so would prefer not bringing pets on the hike.

The Cedar Prairie Sierra Club Executive Committee wants participants to be aware hunting is permitted in a portion of the park. There could be hunters in the park while the hike is underway. (Rabbit season continues until Feb. 28; coyote hunting is permitted year-round.)
