The Vinton Garden Club, a member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., District ll, Central Region, held their regular meeting on March 27, at the home of Fran Stueck for a luncheon. Cindy Pattee and Anne Dake were co-hostess for this 11:30 meeting.
After the delicious lunch, Benton County Conservation Naturalist Karen Phelps spoke about preserving native plains and shared information about conservation activities throughout the county, and implementation of plans for four grants recently awarded. She also discussed the school archery program and the changes at the Nature Center, where many volunteering opportunities will be available.
Club President Fran Stueck called the business meeting to order. Ten members answered roll call by answering the question, "What native flowers do you have in your garden?"
Rita Glime, Pro-Tem, gave the secretary's report and Joyce Bratten gave the treasurer's report. The club finalized plans to visit Cedar Valley Ranch to help residents plant grow-cups with zinnia and marigold seeds.
The District II meeting will take place May 3, in Monona; members planning to attend must make reservations by April 19. 2013 Benton County Fair work schedules were passed out and the club was reminded of the annual plant and bake sale at the fairgrounds open class building on Friday, May 10. The next regular meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. in the VSHS greenhouse, with the school's horticulture class. Nadine Wright will be hostess for lunch at the Lotus restaurant and business meeting. Members must RSVP to Nadine.
Respectfully,
Secretary Connie McClintock
