It’s been awhile since I’ve written an “Unlimited Possibilities” article and I’m going to blame it on the busy-ness surrounding Party in the Park and the many other summer activities throughout Vinton. There are a number of other great family-friendly activities taking place over the next couple of months and we’d love to give you the opportunity to participate in each of them, so grab your calendar and mark these dates!
First of all, coming up quickly is the Benton County Fair. From July 13-July 17 you can find people from all over the County of Benton (and surrounding communities who are looking for a good time) at the fairgrounds South of Vinton. There is a great line-up of activities, shows, food, rides, and events for everyone to enjoy once again this year. Along with the usual judging of plants, poultry, cattle, horses, and wine, there will also be a Race’em & Wreck’em challenge, Roll Over Contest and the usual Sunday night races in the Grand Stands. There are enough activities to keep you and your entire family busy for 5 straight days!
Vinton Unlimited hosts our annual golf tournament on Friday, July 22nd and it is sure to please everyone who plays! This tournament is open to anyone and everyone and we’d love to have you join us for a fun day of golf, give-a-ways, and raffles! Our 2nd Annual “Crowd Pleaser Award” should help give the sponsors of each hole a little extra incentive to make sure you have a good time on the course. Each player in the tournament will have the chance to vote on their favorite hole this year with the winner receiving a plaque with their name on it to be hung in the clubhouse year-round. Last year Farmers Savings Bank & Trust took the win with the hot wings they gave away on hole #1. You can sign-up for the tournament by grabbing a registration form at the Vinton Country Club or outside the Vinton Unlimited office in City Hall. Forms are due in just a couple of weeks, so get signed up now!
That same weekend is the infamous Vinton Car Cruise! We have the opportunity to welcome hundreds of cars to town (along with their drivers) and the privilege of gawking at the unique paint jobs, oversized tires, and un-muffled engines. It all takes place on the streets of Vinton July 23rd. So, grab the kids, invite your out-of-state relatives and get ready to have more fun than you would ever imagine watching cars drive by!
All of this takes place during the month of July, so you should have no problem staying busy in the coming weeks! As a precursor to Boom-Fest & Boomtown taking place in August, we had a great fireworks display to end the fantastic 20th Anniversary of Party in the Park last month. I can’t wait to see what the Iowa Pyrotechnic Association comes up with for the 5th Anniversary of Boomtown on August 27th. I’m promised it will prove to be even bigger and better than anything Vinton has ever seen!
