Monthly program sessions begin Jan 18 (Wednesdays 5:30 – 8:30 pm Saturdays 10 – 2)
“Like winds and sunsets, wild things were taken for granted until progress began to do away with them. Now we face the question whether a still higher ‘standard of living’ is worth its cost in things natural, wild, and free.” - Aldo Leopold
Utilizing the essays of Aldo Leopold’s Sand County Almanac, participants will be encouraged to look more closely at the diverse natural world around them. Interacting directly with the land and posing questions to develop critical thinking skills, adult and youth teams will experience the seasons while growing in their respect of our connection to it.
Adults interested in this program are encouraged to find a youth or two (5th grade and up) to share the experience with. Participants will each receive a copy of Leopold’s Sand County Almanac to read together in preparation for each month. Weekday programs will be held in either Benton or Buchanan Counties (Rogers Park, Vinton and Fontana Park, Hazleton) and will include a light supper. Four Saturday field sessions will also be held. Activities will take place outdoors each month as well as indoors.
Registration cost for the 12 month program is $25 per person and includes the program materials and meals. We understand that participants might not be able to attend every session.
