It started as an idea – “Wouldn’t it be fun to do a 5K every month of the year?” Then the idea started becoming a reality….
Now the Vinton Chiropractic Center is doing a 5K every month of 2013. And they’d LOVE to have you join them for one (or more!) of those races! No matter what you’re abilities are – you’re welcome to get on the 5K bandwagon! Walkers, runners, shuffle-joggers, parents with strollers …come one, come all! Because (and here’s the big secret) it’s always more fun to exercise together!
3.1 miles can seem impossible at first glance. It seems like the biggest hurdle is simply knowing where to start. So The Vinton Chiropractic Center has tried to take some of that challenge out of the equation. They’ve found races in the area (in Vinton, surrounding towns, and Des Moines), they’ve provided training schedules for both runners and walkers alike who would be working toward their first 5K, and there are other goodies to sweeten the deal!
The first race was Saturday, January 26 in the Amana Colonies: The Amana Freezer 5K. And it certainly lived up to its name! It was “chilly” to say the least (temps at start time were around 15 degrees) but the sun was shining and the wind wasn’t blowing too badly. There were approximately 200 runners/walkers that participated and a good time was had by all! The Vinton Chiropractic Center contributed 3 brave, well-bundled runners and a photographer to the event.
So now that January’s race is in the books, all eyes point to Saturday, February 16 – The Red Flannel Run in Des Moines. It’s exactly what you think: you wear as much flannel as humanly possible (or perhaps a fun costume instead). And judging by last year’s temps that dipped into the single digits, you’ll want to wear a lot of flannel!
If you’re interested in joining The Vinton Chiropractic Center staff in their 5K endeavors, just stop in their office at 415 C Ave to pick up an information packet! They’d love to have you join in the fun!
