Ninth Week of the 2025 Legislative Session

Individuals from the Lutheran Services in Iowa visited in Des Moines and shared the work they are doing for our state. In the ninth week of session, the senate was busy passing bills through the senate floor and over to the House of Representatives. We passed about thirty bills across the floor this week, covering a range of issues, including emergency medical services, statutes of limitations, commercial driver’s license requirements, and gift card fraud to name just a few.

Hello, Iowa House District 84 from the State Capitol!

Steve Beck, right, of Belle Plaine, and Jason Vogelgesang with the Iowa Geological Survey display results of groundwater assessments near Belle Plaine. The Iowa Legislature completed week #9 and passed 52 bills. Almost all of these originated in the House, of which 29 were unanimous, 14 passed by at least 90%, five being bipartisan, and four by mostly party line vote.One of the bills passed intends to keep Iowa medical and dental students in Iowa for their residency and after they complete their residency.

Eighth Week of the 2025 Legislative Session

Senator Westrich and I met individuals this week from Iowa State University's Egg Industry Center.      With our first Senate deadline on Friday, everyone in the Senate was actively trying to complete our work on time this week. There was a variety of issues discussed, so some committees would have to take a break and come back later in the day to finish work on them. With such a busy week, we advanced legislation on many important issues.
