Secretary Pate to conduct Iowa Youth Straw Poll on January 9
Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate today announced the Iowa Youth Straw Poll will take place across the state on Tuesday, January 9. Less than one week before Iowans participate in the Iowa presidential caucuses, thousands of Iowa students will make their voices heard in the Iowa Youth Straw Poll and vote for their preferred candidates for U.S. President.

December 5, 2023The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in special session with Supervisors Seeman and Bierschenk present, Primmer called in. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Benton County Service Center. Ombudsman Releases 2023 Annual Report; Complaint Numbers Third Highest on Record
Complaints and information requests to the Iowa Office of Ombudsman in
fiscal year 2023 were the third highest in the history of the office, right behind 2022 and 2021.
The Ombudsman’s FY 2023 statistics and a selection of its casework were released Friday as
part of the office’s annual report to legislators and the public. In total, Iowa’s good-government office fielded 5,997 contacts in FY 2023 – a drop from the
previous year, but still 48 percent more than in FY 2014.

It’s hard to have a happy holiday if you’re arrested for drunk driving. The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) is partnering with law enforcement across Iowa to urge drivers to think twice before drinking and driving. December 15 – January 1, 2024, drivers will see officers working on a special high-visibility enforcement campaign to spread the message about the dangers of drunk driving.
