The Vinton-Shellsburg School Board will hold a special meeting at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, to approve a few contract modifications, including the contract for Ryan Davis in his new position as Shellsburg Elementary Principal.

Supt. Mary Jo Hainstock summarizes her recommendations below:

4. Approve Contracts and Contract Modifications for 2014-15 Action Item

The board has approved most of the non-certified contracts although we had a few questions with the bus drivers’ contracts. There are some other modifications I recommend as well as one new hiring.

Bus Drivers - My recommendation is that we issue contracts to the bus drivers that is a set per hour wage, but a guarantee they will earn as much next year as they did this year.

Technology Support – Kim Meyer recommends we extend Kristi Storey’s contract by 30 minutes per day for a total of eight hours plus increase the number of days in her contract from 194 to 200. The additional 30 minutes per day will allow her to assist with more of the testing set-up and finishing up as well as addressing issues that are generally noticed first thing in the morning. It would also allow her to provide training before or after school. The additional days would allow her to provide more support during the summer when we have new installations and clean-up work to do.

Shellsburg Principal Ryan Davis – The board approved the transfer recommendation for Mr. Davis to serve as principal at Shellsburg, but I had not included a salary recommendation until we finalized salaries for other administrators. My recommendation is he receives a salary of $91,250.

Travel Stipend – Several staff members receive travel stipends which allow them to complete their responsibilities that are often in several locations. Our Director of CIT travels between buildings on a daily and sometime more frequent basis. She has not received a travel stipend. I recommend she receive a stipend of $750.

Carrie Weber – Mr. Kingsbury recommends we hire Carrie Weber as a high school science teacher. She has 13 years of teaching and has most recently been a middle school and high school teacher for the Montezuma schools. She will be placed Class 1, Step 10 for a salary of $47,767.
