Vinton Today will be hosting its first ever debate, on Tuesday evening, October 20, at 7:00 p.m. at the US Bank Building in Vinton.

Candidates are running for the City Council and the Mayoral seat will be in attendance.

Vinton Today will be asking questions sent in from our readers.

The public is welcome to attend this event!

Candidates:

Former council member Bud Maynard will challenge John Watson in the mayoral election. Former VU director Nathan Hesson will run against District 4 incumbent Chris Bendull. And in the race for the at-large seat which Dave Vermedahl held by appointment for the last year, Ted Jessen and Brian Parr are the two candidates. Incumbent council members Tamara Stark, Ron Elwick and Zach Parmater will run unopposed.

Vinton voters will also be asked to approve a telecom utility.

The election takes place Tuesday, Nov. 3. All Vinton residents vote at the Skate Center on C Avenue.

TP October 12, 2015, 1:48 pm Will you be publishing the questions and answers?

Thank you for hosting this for the voters.
DS October 20, 2015, 2:23 pm Who decided which questions would be asked of the candidates? And will the moderator be fair and impartial? Or is the moderator somebody who has already endorsed some of the candidates? And will the audience have a chance to ask questions?

Editor\'s Note: The Vinton Today editors are choosing the questions from among those submitted from Vinton residents; other than the standard \"tell us about yourself\" intro questions, everything we ask will be from a Vinton citizen. We try to be fair and impartial; you can evaluate us on that afterwards. As far as endorsements, we never endorse candidates in local elections, and personally, Editors Dean and Val live outside the city limits.
