I don’t often like to talk about myself. I prefer to focus on the things we are doing for Iowa in our work at the Capitol. However, on Wednesday, I was honored to receive the annual Herbert Hoover Uncommon Public Service Award.
The award is given each year by the Hoover Presidential Foundation to a member of the Senate and a member of the House who have dedicated their time to public service and humanitarian projects.
This year, Speaker of the House Linda Upmeyer and I were the recipients. I received the award for my contributions in supporting youth involvement in agriculture, efforts to strengthen public safety, and my advocacy for a strong infrastructure across the state.
Every year when this award is given, the recipient’s family is present. When the award presentation began, I had no idea it was going to be me, as I didn’t see my wife, Brenda, anywhere in the Senate. In fact, I was unaware the award was even being presented Wednesday morning, and I was going to go to meet with a representative at about the same time as the presentation.
I’d like to thank my clerk, Tammy, for distracting me and keeping me at my desk without giving away the surprise. At about the same time my name was called, I looked over and saw Brenda. I knew then that I was receiving the award, and I was instantly humbled.
Thank you to everybody on the selection committee and to my colleagues who honor me with this prestigious award. I think everyone at the Capitol, in some respect, earned the same acknowledgement for their hard work and dedication for the people of Iowa. It is truly an honor to join a number of exceptional individuals who have been presented this award in the past.
I would like to thank my friends and family for their continuous support, and thank my constituents and the public for this opportunity and distinction.
Most importantly, I would like to thank my wife, Brenda, for her unwavering love and support.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have about the Medicaid transition. If you are experiencing problems with the transition, my staff or I can assist you.
See you out and about the district.
Tim
