VINTON—The 1st District Democratic Committee is hosting a Congressional Forum with Democratic candidates Monica Vernon and Pat Murphy in Vinton on April 29. The Old Main Auditorium on the campus of the Iowa Braille School, 1002 G Ave, Vinton will be the site of the forum. Doors open at 6:30 pm; the forum begins at 7:00 pm.

Vernon and Murphy are seeking to unseat first-term Congressman Rod Blum of Dubuque. The April 29th Forum will be one of a series of forums throughout the district before June 7 primary. After the forum in Vinton Benton County Democratic Central Committee will host a reception at the Ray Historical House at 912 1st Ave. Vinton.

The Vinton Forum begins the week-end of the 1st District Democratic District Convention that will be held in Van Horne at the Benton Community High School on Saturday, April 30. The District Convention is another step towards determining the delegates who will nominate the Democratic Presidential Candidate in Philadelphia later in the summer. In addition, the 388 district delegates will debate and vote on their platform which will be combined with the platforms for the other three Congressional District to be debated and approved at the State Convention on June 18 in Des Moines.
