Vinton-Shellsburg Community Schools

July 6, 2016

Call to Order

President Sue Gates called the regular meeting to order at 5:15 p.m. at the Administrative Office Board Room.

Roll Call / Pledge of Allegiance

Sue Gates, Jason Hicok, Kyle Schminke, Mike Timmermans, Rob Levis, Kathy

Van Steenhuyse, Brenda Bartz, Mary Jo Hainstock, Superintendent, and Brenda Barkdoll,

Business Manager/Board Secretary/Treasurer were present.

Receive Visitors/Public Comments

Shoshannah Guerrero gave an update on the Farm-to School program.

Administrator Reports

Kim Meyer shared that all technology is coming in.

Tony Islas mentioned this year went well and is looking forward to next year.

Superintendent’s Reports

Superintendent Hainstock reported on final levy rate, open enrollment applications, staffing, Summer Work, Summer Meal Program and scheduling next board meeting August 8th at 5:15 p.m.

Board Reports/Requests

Sue, Kathy and Mary Jo shared some information from the 2:30 p.m. meeting at the High School explaining the Highway 218 and Interstate 30 changes.

General Business of the Board

Consent Items

563. It was moved by Van Steenhuyse and seconded by Bartz to accept the consent items as presented.

Motion carried 7/0.

Set Meal Prices for 2016-17

564. It was moved by Levis and seconded by Schminke to approve the suggested meal charges as

presented. Motion carried 7/0.

Tilford Parking Lot Project

565. It was moved by Bartz and seconded by Levis to accept the bids from Schminke Excavating

and C & S Concrete Construction Inc. for the smaller portion of Tilford’s parking lot. Motion carried

6/0 with Schminke abstaining.

Review Job Descriptions

The board will take the job descriptions and review them for the next board meeting.

Approve Uniform Procedures for 2016-17

566. It was moved by Timmermans and seconded by Van Steenhuyse to approve the Uniform Procedures

as presented. Motion carried 7/0.

Workplace Rules

567. It was moved by Schminke and seconded by Bartz to approve the Workplace Rules. Motion

carried 7/0.

Superintendent Goals for 2016-17

The board will review and collect data points on goals for the next board meeting.

Correspondence Items/Reports

> Nick Stein was named the Male Bowler of the Year June 18th at the Des Moines Register’s

first ever All Iowa Sports Award Banquet. They had Peyton Manning and Dallas Clark as

speakers.

> Girl’s golf Accomplishments – Our girl’s golf team had an outstanding year including missing

going to state by one stroke. Coach Woodhouse shared a summary of their year.
