Senator Rob Hogg of Cedar Rapids Is Special Guest For Ice Cream Social at Franklin Park August 17

Paula Denison of Van Horne, candidate for state representative in House District 75, announced today that she and two other legislative candidates will hold an ice cream social at Franklin Park in Belle Plaine on Wednesday, August 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The other candidates are Dennis Mathahs of Marengo, candidate for state senate in Senate District 38, and Jacob Tornholm of Williamsburg, candidate for state representative in House District 76.

"I am looking forward to meeting with the citizens of Belle Plaine and from throughout the region," Denison said. Senate District 38 and House Districts 75 and 76 include Benton, Iowa, and Poweshiek Counties.

“I’m really excited to hear from all of the voters in the area, not just Democrats but all points of view. I see these events as a great way to talk with each other, and find common ground to the issues we face here in Iowa.” Tornholm said.

“I hope as many of our future constituents as possible can attend. The voters of the district know best how they can be represented effectively. The only way to be an effective advocate is to talk to the voters and learn from them. I have been fortunate that many of our future constituents have taken the time to share their thoughts with me. I look forward to another opportunity find out which issues are the most important to the voters of Iowa, Benton and Poweshiek Counties.” Mathahs said.

The special guest for the event is State Senator Rob Hogg of Cedar Rapids, who finished second in a four-way Democratic primary for the United States Senate earlier this year.

"I hope voters will take the time to get to know these candidates," Hogg said. "We need strong public servants who are committed to making life better for Iowans through education, health care, clean energy, and clean water. We also need to elect legislators who will be willing to challenge Governor Branstad when he over-steps his authority like he did by privatizing Medicaid and by shutting down two of our state's mental health institutes."

The event will take place at the Franklin Park pavilion off of 11th Street in Belle Plaine.
