Former 2016 State Senate Candidate, John George of Marengo, has completed the filing of his candidacy to run for Iowa's 75th District State Representative as a Libertarian. Iowa's 75th House District covers all of Benton County, as well as Hilton, Honey Creek, Marengo and Washington townships, and the communities of Marengo and Conroy, located in northern Iowa County. “Coming off of our 2016 record setting campaign, where we were able to achieve not only major political party status here in the State, but allowed us to set the record for total voted received and the highest percentage of the vote in the history of the Libertarian Party of Iowa. We are hoping to do even bigger things in 2018 with no incumbent running in this year’s election,” said George. “It’s a wide open race where I plan on attacking the issues our State and communities face by occupying the center of the political spectrum that has been vacated by the Alt-Right Republicans and the Far Left Progressives that are in this race, and hopefully bring some common sense back into the fray.’ George, 44, majored in Political Science with a Minor in Legal Studies at Columbia College, and has spent the better part of the last decade as a rising political advocate and leader. He has served as AssociaJohn R George te Representative for the Libertarian Party of Iowa for the state’s 1st congressional district, former Vice-Chair of the Johnson County Libertarian Party, and currently serves as the Chair of the Iowa County Libertarian Party. Additionally, he serves on the Board of Directors and is the Associate Lobbyist for the non-profit organization Families United Action Network. FUAN is the leading family law reform organization in the State of Iowa and has a continued presence at the Capital Building in Des Moines as a watchdog for justice and equality for Iowa families and children. “My work with FUAN has allowed me to work hand in hand with both Republican and Democrat leaders to put their partisan beliefs aside and focus on passing legislation that will help bring justice for children and families across the state. FUAN has advocated a record number of bills that have cleared the Senate already this year with unilateral and bi-partisan support behind them. So while the legacy candidates running in this district are talking the talk about potential solutions they might bring to the table, I've already shown what it takes to get bills passed for the betterment of our society and will continue to lead by example in championing the policies that reflect our values as Iowans and will continue to make us Iowa strong,” said George. George has lived in Marengo for close to ten years where he owns a small business and helps raise his five year old twin daughters, Gemma and Aimee, with their mother, Monica Prevett.
