The weather has been less than ideal, but before we know it, we will be mowing our lawns in probably six to eight weeks!

The House members have continued working on sticking to our budget limitations as required by law and trying to keep pace to hopefully be finished with this session by May 3rd.

A bill I was assigned to chair for an Agriculture sub-committee was to improve how farm tenants and landlords communicate when one party would like to terminate a lease by the 1st of September of any given year. It passed out of the subcommittee and moves on to the full committee, but will have some amendments. It addresses the issue of one party not officially being notified, so one option will be by certified letter, which will cover any discrepancies of not being notified. The file is still being amended to improve it, so stay tuned!

On Thursday, our Economic Development Subcommittee toured the World Food Prize’s Hall of Laureates. It is a very impressive building in downtown Des Moines that highlights the humanitarian heritage of Iowans, such as Dr. Norman Borlaug, 1970 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, from Cresco, Iowa. Borlaug developed disease resistant and high yielding wheat in Mexico that has saved more lives from hunger than any other person. During our tour, one of the speakers was Ellen Franzenburg, a Benton Community grad who serves as Director of Secretariat Operations. If anyone would like a free tour or read more about this fascinating place, go to this website: https://www.worldfoodprize.org/en/about_the_prize/

The people from District 75 continue to amaze me!

Be safe out there!
