The Benton County Board of Supervisors made plans on Friday to begin the process of appointing a replacement to fill the remaining term of Kelly Geater, Benton County's Treasurer. Geater announced unofficially to the board on Tuesday of her intentions to step down.
The appointee would then fulfill the position until the next general election when the position will appear on the ballot.
The Supervisors plan to accept applications for the positions and to appoint someone from those who apply.
There will be official notices and details for applying within the next few weeks appearing in area publications.
Original story about Geater's resignation.
There is a process for voters to force an election if they so choose, and information for that will be included in the official notice. The cost of a special election would run taxpayers close to $30,000.
