The iVinton project is getting ready to gear up again with contractors bringing in several crews to finish building the fiber network. Residents are encouraged to contact the iVinton office if you haven't yet had crews to your home to run the conduit (the tube that holds the fiber) to your house. There is NO charge for this...or now for the fiber to be connected to your home.

The board decided at Tuesday's meeting to go ahead with the additional expense and run the fiber to each home that has signed up for a site survey, something that is a new decision. It will just automatically be included with your free conduit.

The desire to have this run to each home will give iVinton the ability to quickly turn on service for the next resident or current residents should the decide to join the network at a later time.

Not having this done, could delay future connection to the network once the trucks leave town. In order to be cost effective the utility would need to have somewhere between 75 and 100 sign ups to make it worth paying a company to make a trip to Vinton to connect homes to the fiber network once construction is done. Without this huge number of new connections the cost would be prohibitive for new customers. The possibility of damaging existing fiber to install a new home at a later time could also put the laid fiber at risk. The best scenario is to have every home connected. Whether you want to participate in the service immediately or not.

Right now the number stands roughly at 1,740 structures in town that have had a site survey. Talk to your neighbors if you don't see that they've been connected. Direct the to call the iVinton office to set up and schedule a time to get connected. Their number is 319-472-3255. Right now they have roughly 1,500 homes connected, so the sooner you call, the better. Time is limited.

The city needs your permission to add you to this utility, and are hoping that more will participate in this construction phase...call today!
