Families United Action Network, announced today that SF571, a bill brought by Families United Action Network and sponsored by Senator Brad Zaun, for the rebuttable presumption of Shared Parenting, has passed through the Senate with a 30-18 vote.

The  purpose  of  this  proposed  change  is  to  be  in  compliance  with  studies  by  112  social scientists that all concluded that Shared or collaborative Parenting that strives to maximize parenting time as equally as possible between parents is in the best interest of children of all ages. The studies further concluded that when parenting time is not equalized, suicide, and jail time of the affected children is much higher. Conversely, children experiencing Shared Parenting with maximized attempts to equalize parenting time are more apt to be honor students, entrepreneurs, and successful, productive members of society.

Allowing  children  equal  access  to  both  fit  and  loving  parents  will  dramatically  improve our society and generate long-term growth opportunities through emotional, financial, mental, and physical well-being for children and families. Equal Shared Parenting maximizes children’s time with both parents in divorce and/or separation situations and minimizes the adversarial nature of family law while reducing the financial burdens put on families and individuals during the current court proceedings. The goal is to promote family preservation which will create an environment that produces healthier individuals, a more stable and fruitful economy, strong community ties for Iowa, and a prosperous tomorrow for all. “All this bill does is put parents on equal footing as they enter the court. I’m proud to put forth this idea and see it move forward,” said Senator Brad Zaun.
