On Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at approximately 10:50 p.m., Vinton Police officers and Benton County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to 614 E. 10th Street in Vinton for a 911 report of a stabbing. Officers found an adult male with multiple minor lacerations that he sustained when his wife allegedly attacked him with a steak knife during an argument.
The female had fled before officers arrived but officers found her at the home of an acquaintance approximately 15 minutes later. She was taken into custody and transported to the Benton County Jail. The victim refused medical care.
Officers charged Shannon Leah Homewood, age 34, of Vinton with the following;
1. Willful Injury (Class D Felony), Section 708.4(2) of the Code of Iowa
2. Domestic Abuse Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon (Aggravated Misdemeanor), Section 708.2A(2)(c) of the Code of Iowa.
An arrest or criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
