The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Primmer, Bierschenk and Seeman were present. The meeting was called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. Members of the public were provided the zoom access capability to join in during open session and watch live at the county's YouTube channel. Unless otherwise noted, all actions were approved unanimously.
Bierschenk moved/Seeman seconded: To approve farm exemption application for Rickie J. Gordon in the West ½ of the SW ¼ of 36-86-10. Motion carried.
Seeman moved/Bierschenk seconded: To approve the minutes of May 19, 2020. Motion carried.
Bierschenk moved/Seeman seconded: Approve payroll checks numbered 141270 through 141284, ACH deposits numbered 41803 through 41952, claims numbered 235163 through 235284 and vendor checks 235285 through 235284. Motion carried.
Seeman moved/Bierschenk seconded: To approve and authorize chairman to sign the East Central Iowa Council of Government (ECICOG) purchase of service contract for FY 21 for Benton County Transportation. Motion carried.
Seeman moved/Bierschenk seconded: To approve Resolution #20-34, Employment Status Change in the Sheriff's Office. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION #20-34
EMPLOYMENT STATUS CHANGE FOR BRANDAN GEIGER
WHEREAS, the Benton County Sheriff has a need for full-time correction officer; and
WHEREAS, Brandan Geiger has been employed by Benton County as part-time since October 9, 2018;
WHEREAS, Geiger has been currently performing the duties of the above mentioned position; and
WHEREAS, the Sheriff recommended that Geiger have his employment status be changed from part-time to full-time,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Benton County Board of Supervisors that Brandan Geiger be changed to a full-time correctional officer in the Sheriff's office, effective May 26, 2020 at the hourly rate of $18.74 an hour.

AMENDING RESOLUTION #18-56
ADOPTING BENTON COUNTY GENERAL ASSISTANCE
CREMATION SERVICE RATES
WHEREAS, the Benton County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution establishing cremation service rates through the county general assistance on November 25, 2014; and amended said resolution updating expenses with resolution's #15-90, #17-75 and #18-85;
WHEREAS, the Board desires to change the rates approved for said services through the repeal of the existing resolutions and the adopting of new rates in lieu thereof,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Benton County Board of Supervisors that Resolution's #15-90, #17-75 and #18-85 Benton County General Assistance Establishing Cremation Service Rates, are HEREBY REPEALED in their entirety, effective May 26, 2020,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the following cremation service rates are HEREBY ADOPTED effective May 26, 2020.
Cremation Service
Crematory Expense $305.00
Cremation Tray 39.00
Medical Examiners Permit 75.00
Funeral Home Director's Fee 750.00
Optional Expenses:
Grave Opening @ cost, not to exceed 225.00
(Family must pay opening charges above $225.00)

Bierschenk moved/Seeman seconded: To and authorize chairman to sign the letter of support for the HRDP Grant Submission application on behalf of the Benton County Historical Preservation. Motion carried.
Bierschenk moved/Seeman seconded: To approve Luke Hennings for the part time spray truck driver for the weed department effective June 1, 2020 at $16.50 an hour. Motion carried.
Seeman moved/Bierschenk seconded: To approve the seasonal hire of George Haefner as the (IRVM) intern starting June 1, 2020 at $13.79 an hour. Primmer abstained due to conflict of interest. Motion carried.
Tracy Seeman provided an update on the work he has been doing at the Benton County Service Center. Working on gutters and the progress in the Rural Access Center.
Benton County is continuing to monitor the impact of Covid-19 on county operations and discussed some ideas and suggestions or opening up more things in the county. Supervisor Seeman drove around the campgrounds over the Memorial Day Weekend and thought things seemed well. Karen Phelps, Conservation Director emailed an update and explained some of the ways they continue to encourage social distancing among campers and certain supplies and fogging devices are being purchased in proper ways for killing the viruses and bacteria on surfaces. They are hopeful to be able to open up more things in the near future. No changes at this time have been made.
