Tuesday, August 4th, the Vinton City Council met in a special session to appoint an interim City Clerk. (the position is listed on Vinton Today here)

Mayor, Bud Maynard stated that there was only one person that was currently qualified for the position and that was the City Administrator Chris Ward. As part of the job, Ward will receive a 15% pay increase until the position is filled which is according to the law. The council can choose to pay anywhere from 5-15%. Ward felt that 10% would be sufficient but the council felt that the extra duties would be worth the 15% pay increase which will come to approximately $1,500 over the 6 weeks period that he will be expected to fill the position.

The Council moved to appoint Ward to the position effective August 11th following the vacancy of the position by current clerk Cindy Michael.

Ward was sworn in following the meeting.
