The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Primmer, Bierschenk and Seeman present. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. Members of the public were provided the zoom access capability to join in during open session and watch live at the county's YouTube channel. Unless otherwise noted, all actions were approved unanimously.
Bierschenk moved/Seeman seconded: To approve the minutes from Tuesday September 8, 2020.
Seeman moved/Bierschenk seconded: Approve handwrites #236416 through 236418 for the sheriff's office for employee training. Motion carried.
Seeman moved/Bierschenk seconded: To approve the Annual Benton County Urban Renewal Report. Motion carried.
The Board discussed a proposal for labor and employment services from Ahlers Cooney Attorneys. Benton County Attorney David Thompson stressed that anything involving an attorney, he has to sign off on or it doesn't happen. Primmer recommended tabling the item to allow Thompson to look the proposal over.
Mindy Druschel, Department of Human Services, discussed D-SNAP(Disaster Food Assistance) and use of the Benton County Service Center. They are expecting 700 households to apply for this, and she was concerned about maintaining social distancing and the proper screening process. She was assured the board was okay with this and that the Sheriff's office would make sure security was handled.
Seeman moved/Bierschenk seconded: To set land use hearing date for Dennis Hearn in the NE ¼ of NW ¼ 36-86-10 for Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at 9:15 a.m. Motion carried.
Benton County Public Health's director Katie Cox provided an update on COVID-19 numbers in Benton County. The positive count was at 249, and about 40 to 50 are still active cases. Sheriff Ron Tippett said what we're doing seems to be working, and thought we should just stay status quo.
Seeman Moved/Bierschenk seconded: To keep the courthouse as is until Tuesday October 6, 2020 and continue utilizing appointments as much as possible. Motion carried.
The Engineer reported that his agenda items were not ready for action, the DOT was not officially done with their letting, so this will have to go back on next week.
Tracy Seeman provided a conservation update as well as a report on the new Transportation Building progress.
