Every 10 years, following the census, district lines, are redrawn across the states to ensure a more equal number of voters in each district. The same happens locally. Boundaries are redrawn in the cities with the same idea. Vinton has begun the process to recreate the precincts adjusting for expansion inside the city limits.


PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE

The City of Vinton will hold a public hearing to discuss proposed changes to ward and precinct boundaries within the City limits. Changes are a result of the 2020 census results.

The Public Hearing will be held Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 7:00pm at City Hall located at 110 W 3rd Street.

The abbreviating legal descriptions are below.

1st Precinct

This precinct begins at the intersection of 1st Avenue and 2nd St. and goes east along 2nd St. to 2nd Ave. then south along 2nd Ave. to the railroad tracks, east along the tracks to the east corporate city limits. Then the boundary goes north following the corporate boundary to the west, coming back south and crossing the Cedar River on Highway 150, returning to the starting point.

2nd Precinct

The second precinct begins at the intersection of 1st Ave. and 2nd St. then east along 2nd St. to 2nd Ave., south along 2nd Ave. to the railroad tracks. Then west along the tracks to G Ave., south along the tracks to the intersection of J Ave. and 8th St., then west on W. 9th St. to K Ave. and north along K Ave. to Hinkle Creek. Then the border is south along the creek to the western edge of the city limits and east following the boundary to the beginning point.

3rd Precinct

Third precinct begins at the intersection of 1st Ave. and the railroad tracks traveling west along the tracks to G Ave. and southwest along the railroad tracks. to the intersection of J Ave. and 8th St. and west on W. 8th St. to K Ave. The border then goes north along K Ave. to Hinkle Creek, southwesterly along Hinkle Creek to the western corporate limit of the city, then south following the city boundary to the intersection of the southern city limit and Hwy 150 and north along Hwy. 150 to 15th St. then east along 15th St. to A Ave. and north along A Ave. to 13th St. and east along 13th St. to 1st Ave. and north along 1st Ave. to the beginning point.

4th Precinct

4th begins at the intersection of 1st Ave. and the railroad tracks traveling east along the tracks and southeasterly to the edge of the eastern city limits. Then it travels south and west following the boundary to the intersection of the south corporate limit and Hwy. 150, and north along the highway to 15th St. and east along 15th St. to A Ave. and north along A Ave. to 13th St. Then along 13th St. to 1st Ave. and north along 1st Ave. to the starting point.
