Government : Iowa House District 76 Candidate Profile: Kate Wyatt

My name is Kate Wyatt, and I am running for Iowa House District 76.  This includes a large portion of Black Hawk County, and areas of both Benton and Tama Counties.   I have served on the Hudson City Council for the past 9 years, and with that, have served on the Public Safety Committee and Mayor's Task Force for Economic Development.  I was a member of the Black Hawk County Gaming Association from 2016 to 2022, and am currently a member of the Cedar Valley Women Lead Change organization, the Hudson Chamber of Commerce, and am very active with Grow Cedar Valley. 
I have worked for the past decade to help not only the city of Hudson, but the Cedar Valley by building relationships, and working with different groups to bring awareness and change to our community.  I led the effort to raise money for and build a splash pad in Hudson, and tirelessly work to promote our community and area to showcase what an amazing area we live in.  
During my time on the Hudson City Council, I have worked with citizens to represent what they want and need in our town.  We have kept taxes low, while funding projects that need attention, and still growing our base.  This comes with being in a great location and welcoming new homes and businesses to our town, and working with groups to keep letting them know how the Cedar Valley can welcome them.  I believe this gives me the experience, connections, and skills to make the best candidate for Iowa House District 76.
In today's political society, our legislators are so divided that they are not holding any common sense conversations to make decisions that the people who elect them want to see.   I believe that I can help bridge this divide as I do believe in people over politics, and will make decisions on what's best for Iowa, and not just what a party wants.  
I have spent many hours this year knocking on doors in our district, and talking to people who live here.  I have been hearing the same concerns over and over again.  Our public schools need funding, women need the right to make decisions with their doctors, why isn't there more access and better mental health care, and we need to bring more businesses to Iowa to help support our tax base.  We can help make a difference in all of these concerns when we listen to the people.  We all want to lower taxes, but we need to make sure we are allowing our state to flourish and investing the money we do have wisely.  I'm excited to be the fresh set of eyes, without an agenda, that can help make Iowa better.
I have lived in Hudson, Iowa for my whole life.  I graduated from Hudson High School in 1995 and then attended both Hawkeye Community College and Upper Iowa University.  I currently work for Dupaco Credit Union as an Insurance Agent.  I love my community, and all of the exciting things we have developing in it.  I have a passion for serving others, and trying to make my piece of the world a better place.  I am extremely excited to represent Iowa House District 76 and make Iowa proud!
