When heavy snow or ice accumulations are apparent or predicted Shellsburg city officials will declare a "snow emergency" according to city code 69.15. The declaration of a "snow emergency" will be broadcast to citizens through radio and television outlets and social media.
The ban will normally be 48 hours in length, but can be shortened or lengthened so continue to watch for notification. During a snow emergency you cannot park a vehicle on the street or alley or in the right of way along a city street. You cannot move vehicles back onto the street until the ban has been lifted.
Penalties can be charged and your-vehicle can be towed, if necessary to clear the streets. If you have questions about the snow emergency policy, please contact city hall at 436- 2954.
