The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Seeman, Tippett and Volz present. Chairman Seeman called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Benton County Service Center. Members of the public are invited to join in during open session or watch the livestream at https://www.youtube.com/bentoncountyiowa.

Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To approve the agenda. All members voting aye. Motion carried.

Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To approve the minutes of May 6, 2025.

Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.

Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To approve the quote received from Schmink Excavating in the amount of $17,350 for repairing the water line repairs at the Service Center.

Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye thereon. Motion carried.

Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To set land use hearing date for Destructible Inc. for Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at 9:15 a.m. for part of SE ¼ in NE ¼ of the SE ¼ of 12-86-11.

Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.

Volz moved/Tippett seconded: To approve payroll checks numbered 143766 through 143775, ACH Deposits 61034 through 61200, vendor checks 253592 through 253598 and claims numbered 253599 through 253805.Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.

Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To approve the final acceptance invoice from Racom in the amount of $720,432.09 to be paid out of the ARPA fund and to authorize Supervisor Seeman to sign the final contract. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.

Volz moved/Tippett seconded: To approve Resolution #25-35, Abatement of Taxes. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.

RESOLUTION #25-35

WHEREAS, Belle Plaine School has acquired property for public purposes and were given the appropriate notice of the taxes due; and

WHEREAS, said entity failed to pay said tax; and

WHEREAS, Iowa Code 445.63 provides that the board of supervisors shall abate the tax if the governing body fails to immediately pay the tax,

IT IS THEREFORE RESOLVED that the 2024 tax assessed against parcels listed below as follows are hereby abated in the amounts listed pursuant to Iowa Code 445.63: the treasurer is directed to strike the amount listed due from the county system.

Taxes plus interest and costs Due: $80

Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To authorize an increase to the Public Health Departments credit card limit from $2,000 to $7,500 until June 15,2025 and then decrease it back down to $2,000. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.

Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To approve the FY 25 Suspended Tax List for Department of Health and Human Services. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.

The Board has a busy week with various committee meetings. Supervisor Seeman reported on his recent Conservation Board meeting. The Atkins Roundhouse project had some assistance from the secondary roads department excavating an old cement foundation that was a safety concern.
