Nominations for the award are made by residents, family members, or staff of the

NEW RESOURCE FOR IOWANS TO LEARN ABOUT EMERGING DRUGS
The Iowa Office of Drug Control Policy (ODCP) unveiled a new website to educate Iowans about emerging substances for which there may be little or no regulation, such as Xylazine and Kratom. The new online resource also highlights the dangers of evolving illicit substances like fentanyl, counterfeit pills, and highly potent marijuana products. The Iowa Emerging Drugs in Iowa website provides educational information about newer or changing substances marketed for consumption in Iowa.
Farmers Market Program Checks Available to WIC Recipients, Low-Income Seniors
Program assists Iowa WIC recipients and lower-income seniors in obtaining fresh and nutritious local produce while building market demand for Iowa farmers Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig announced today that Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) checks are now available for eligible Iowa WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) recipients and low-income senior citizens.

Belle Plaine Specialty Care receives national Commitment to Quality Bronze Award
The American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) recently announced the recipients of the 2023 Bronze Commitment to Quality Award. Ten Iowa long-term care facilities were recognized by AHCA/NCAL with this award, which encompassed nearly 400 long-term and post-acute care providers in 47 states.Ten Iowa long-term care facilities received this award, which included Benton County's Belle Plaine Specialty Care, in Belle Plaine.

New law makes Iowa 38th state to regulate midwives
On June 1, Governor Kim Reynolds announced the signing of HF 265 to license certified professional
midwives in Iowa. Thirty-seven other states and the District of Columbia currently regulate the practice of
midwifery, making Iowa the 38th state.The bill provides licensure for Certified Professional Midwives (CPM), also referred to as direct-entry
midwives, which are certified by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM).
