Last month marked 5 years since I left an abusive relationship. It was one of the hardest but worthwhile things a person can do.On average it takes a person 7 times to leave an abusive relationship; and when I finally left for good, it was my 6th and final attempt.

 The Area Substance Abuse Council (ASAC) officially marked its 46th anniversary on October 18. Originally founded as two separate agencies addressing alcohol and drug use in the Cedar Rapids area, the two combined in 1978.

SafeSitter Essentials with CPR is a course recommended for students in grades 5th-8th grade. There is a class fee of $30 which includes a student workbook, drawstring bag, notepad, flashlight and band-aid dispenser.

LifeServe Blood Center has sent more than 250 red cells and platelets to the areas being impacted by Hurricane Milton. The blood supply in the hurricane zone is already suffering due to Hurricane Helene that made landfall in late September, lower blood donor turnout and active evacuations ahead of the current storm.
