Domestic violence fatalities decline slightly in first eight months of 2022
Women remain the overwhelming majority of victims in IowaTwelve people lost their lives as a result of domestic violence in the first eight months of 2022. Nine women and three bystanders were killed as a result of these domestic violence cases. The 12 deaths in 2022 represent a decrease in the number of domestic violence deaths reported during the same period in 2021 when 17 deaths were recorded, according to the Domestic Violence Fatality Chronicle.

As Hurricane Ian makes landfall, the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) Interorganizational Task Force is urging eligible blood donors in parts of the United States unaffected by the storm to make donation appointments as soon as possible and keep existing appointments.The blood supply in the hurricane zone is already suffering due to lower blood donor turnout and evacuations ahead of the storm.

Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller unveiled today a website dedicated to providing Iowans with a path to recovery from Opioid Use Disorder. IowaOpioidHelp.com directs Iowans to treatment centers and other resources across the state. “Most people do not realize that addiction to opioids is treatable and that Iowans suffering from Opioid Use Disorder can successfully regain control of their lives,” Miller said.
