Labor Day 2020 COVID-19 and Food Safety Guidance
As Iowans gather with their families this Labor Day to celebrate the accomplishments of American workers, and mark the unofficial end of summer vacation, IDPH reminds all Iowans that COVID-19 is still circulating in Iowa. All Iowans should continue to take precautions to protect the health of themselves and their families. Before attending a family gathering or cookout, please take a moment to review this guidance to help you understand how the virus spreads and how to protect yourself and others.
Benton County Public Health Reminds Residents to Gather Responsibly Over Weekend
As Iowans prepare to celebrate the accomplishments of American workers and mark the unofficial end of summer vacation this Labor Day weekend, Benton County Public Health urges residents to be informed about how COVID-19 spreads and steps they can take to reduce the spread of the virus. “The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to the virus in the first place,” said County Public Health Director Katie Cox.

Appointments are required. Donors who do not have an appointment will not be able to give blood.

‘Team Up For 10’ with the Healthiest State Annual Walk on October 7
In October 2011, Gov. Terry Branstad led a "Start Somewhere Walk" outside of the Iowa Capitol and invited communities across the state to do the same. It was a call to action for all Iowans to prioritize their health and make physical activity part of their daily routines.Each year after that, a Healthiest State Annual Walk has been held on the first Wednesday of October and hundreds of thousands of Iowans have participated over the course of a decade.
IOWANS IMPACTED BY DERECHO CAN CONTACT IOWA CONCERN HOTLINE
COVID Recovery Iowa is responding to the mental health needs of Iowans impacted by the recent storm. While more than 75,000 Iowans are still without power one week after a derecho destroyed trees, homes and brought down power lines across the state, help is available by contacting the Iowa Concern Hotline. COVID Recovery Iowa is for Iowans who have been impacted by both the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and living in the aftermath of last week's storms.
Atkins Family Medical Clinic to open on Thursday
The Atkins Family Clinic will be open on Thursday and Friday from 10:00 am-1:00 pm for acute patients only. The clinic had been closed since the storm hit, but will be open.
Benton Co. Public Health Urges Parents to Schedule Well Child and Immunization
As Iowans continue to push through the COVID-19 pandemic and maintain their new sense of normalcy, parents and guardians of school-aged children are reminded that annual physicals and back-to-school immunizations are still important. According to a report released by the Iowa Department of Public Health, since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, well child visits have declined significantly, causing a delay in required and recommended immunizations, health screenings, and referrals.
Team Up for 10’ years of the Healthiest State Annual Walk
Registration for the Healthiest State 10th Annual Walk, presented by Delta Dental of Iowa, is now open. On Wednesday, October 7, thousands of Iowans across the state will participate in walks at schools, workplaces and in their communities.
