On Saturday, October 4th Virginia Gay Hospital Healthcare Foundation with the support of Vinton Parks and Recreation Department (VPRD) and other area health and wellness organizations will host the first Benton County Community Health and Wellness Fair at the Vinton Skate and Activity Center from 10am to 2pm - Admission is Free.
Below is a listing of the free health and wellness sessions:
Activity Arena” Break Out Sessions
10:30 am -“What is Rapid Resistance Training?” (Kettlebells)
Take the opportunity to try some of our most popular tools, Kettlebells, TRX Suspension Trainers and Concept 2 Rowing machines. Our certified instructors will demonstrate proper techniques and answers your questions.
11:00 am - “Modern Martial Arts” (VPRD Tae Kwon Do - Instructor Kristine Schultis)
Join us for an introduction to modern martial arts. If you like it, you’re welcome to join this group on a weekly basis year round. Open to all ages.
11:30 am - “Fitness for Everyone” (Total Balance)
From boot camp to pilates, your invited to learn how to experience fitness with some innovative equipment.
Noon - “Joint Replacement Know-How” (VGH Therapy Department)
Join us for equipment demonstration and dressing/bathing know-how needed after a joint replacement. We’ll also have a before and after joint replacement exercise demonstration.
12:30 pm - “Fitness for Everyone” (Total Balance)

Learn about the most current Dietary recommendations based on “The MyPlate” concept, exercise recommendations, and other resources from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach of Benton County.

11:30 am - “Fact or Fiction: Nutrition Edition” (VGH Dietician, Leigh Wright)
The media constantly bombards us with new information regarding our health and nutrition--fad diets, weight loss tricks, super foods and the list goes on. So, what’s the truth? I’ll address some common nutrition myths with current evidence-based information to help you make better choices for your health.
Noon - “Winter Health Strategies” (Virginia Gay Hospital Home Health)
‘Tis the season for the flu…. discover simple ways to avoid it and stay healthy!

1:00 pm - Managing Meds” (LaGrange Pharmacy)
Learn the importance of making sure your pharmacy knows all the medications you’re on, medication adherence, medication synchronization and medication disposal.
