On Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 9:00 AM to noon at the Vinton Public Library, a free health and wellness event will be held for families with young children.

The following services will be available at this event:

* Childhood vaccinations

* Car seat safety inspection and installation

* Vision screening

* Hearing screening

* Dental screening

* Lead screening

* Developmental screening

* Social-emotional developmental screening

* Flower planting activity with a Master Gardener

* Officers from the Benton County Sheriff's Office will also be on hand to visit with families.

There will be lots of prizes and gifts including books, car seats and safety items. Don't miss this opportunity!

According to Amanda McKee with the LSI Healthy Families program, "Early screening is one way to ensure children are ready to learn and be on track for school readiness. It seems strange to think that what a 6-month-old is doing can impact that child at five but each day compounds. This event is a great opportunity for families to screen not only on hearing and vision but also communication, motor skills and social emotional development. If there is a delay, through early intervention we are able to connect the family with the services needed without them feeling overwhelmed and searching for services themselves."

This event is sponsored by: Benton County Family Nurturing Council, Benton County Public Health, Better Tomorrows Early Childhood Iowa, HACAP and LSI.
