As the New Year begins, Compassus invites community members in Cedar Rapids and the surrounding areas to consider a resolution that makes a lasting impact-volunteering to support hospice patients and their families. Compassus, a nationwide provider of integrated home-based care services, including hospice care, is searching for compassionate hospice volunteers who want to give the gift of presence and comfort during life's most challenging moments.
Hospice volunteers are vital members of a care team dedicated to preserving dignity and enhancing the quality of life for patients receiving end-of-life care. Whether sitting with a patient to provide companionship, lending a listening ear to family members or helping with small tasks, volunteers bring immeasurable comfort to those they serve.
"Volunteers are the heart of hospice care," says Jill Venden, volunteer coordinator at Compassus. "They offer kindness and compassion during moments that matter most. As we step into the New Year, we encourage those looking for a meaningful way to give back to consider joining our team."
Most hospice volunteers visit patients in their homes or at long-term care facilities. The role requires a caring attitude, reliability and effective communication skills, and it is tailored to fit individual schedules.
Compassus provides free training to ensure volunteers feel confident and supported in their roles. Training covers hospice services and the philosophy of care. Whether two hours a month or six hours a week, all efforts are appreciated and needed.
For more information or to apply as a volunteer, visit compassus.com/volunteers. To contact the Compassus - Cedar Rapids office directly, reach out to Jill Venden at jill.venden@compassus.com or 319-343-1412. Volunteers must be 18 years or older.
