Old Business:

  • BCSPC Scholarships

VS had two recipients that split the $500 between them both. Both are equally deserving. May 7th are senior awards for all 3 schools. I will give awards at Benton and VS, but Belle Plaine's is at the same time as VS. Lisa Daily, Belle Plaine guidance counselor, will give on our behalf.


  • June 8th. Benton County Speedway Mental Health awareness night/Little racers car club

  • June 27-June 29. Benton County Fair. Coordinating with the Extension Office with Booth sharing.

  • Suicide prevention/awareness walk-Grace

Greg is looking into borrowing a cotton candy machine. Cost would only be supplies. A snow cone truck was also mentioned…we can look into other options if a cotton candy machine falls through.

  • May Mental Health Awareness Month.

Check with guidance counselors at VS, Benton and Belle Plaine on what they need help with for Mental Health Awareness Month and forward thought on September and Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.

Holly emailed the schools for Belle Plaine, Benton Community and Vinton-Shellsburg of how our coalition can support them. Potential giveaways or rewards.


  • Supporting kids over the summer utilizing the Summer Free Lunch program with the schools and getting information to the kids. Coordinate with Karen Ackman.

VS summer meal program reach out: Karen is more than happy to involve our coalition in this process. Possibly even presenting.

  • Contact Marge McDonald at the Shellsburg Library with mental health awareness ideas. Tina Kearns is also a contact there.

Connecting with Libraries in Benton County: Holly is potentially presenting at the Urbana library on Monday June 2nd.


  • Glow Stick night, sunset walk, Vinton Skate Center, Mini Golf.


New Business:


  • 988 decals for Benton County law enforcement vehicles: One concern is how would they get replacements if they get new vehicles, the sheriffs office will provide replacements. Belle Plaine is on board and so is the Benton County Sheriff's department. The Vinton police department is not willing to support this. North Benton, Benton County Sheriff's department, Belle Plaine.
