October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to honor survivors, support those currently battling the disease, and remind our community that early detection saves lives. With breast cancer affecting 1 in 8 women during their lifetime, regular screenings and awareness can make a lifesaving difference. Virginia Gay Hospital (VGH) is proud to join the national effort to raise awareness and encourage proactive steps toward women’s health through education, screenings, and local events. Mammogram appointments may be made by calling VGH Scheduling at 6270. Those who schedule their appointment in October will receive a complimentary gift.
Ladies’ Night Out: A Celebration of Health and Hope
To celebrate and support women’s wellness, VGH is hosting Ladies’ Night Out—a fun and empowering evening that brings together women of all ages for preventive care. This year’s event will feature walk-in mammogram clinics on Thursday, October 9th, Tuesday, October 21st,Wednesday, October 23rd and Monday, October 28th at the VGH Imaging Department. No appointment is necessary, but participants should bring their insurance card and identification. For those without insurance, assistance is available through VGH’s Gifts of Hope program. Light refreshments, beverages, and friendly staff will make the evening comfortable and relaxed.
“These clinics are about convenience and compassion,” said Tina Eden, CEO of Virginia Gay Hospital. “We want to make it as easy as possible for women to prioritize their health. A mammogram only takes a few minutes, but it can truly save a life.”
Early Detection Saves Lives
According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early—before it spreads—the five-year survival rate is 99%. Regular mammograms are the most reliable method to detect breast cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages.
VGH encourages women age 40 and older, or those with a family history of breast cancer, to talk with their healthcare provider about screening schedules and risk factors.
Gifts of Hope, established by the Virginia Gay Hospital Health Care Foundation, helps provide mammograms, diagnostic testing, and other healthcare services for local residents who might otherwise go without care. Donations to Gifts of Hope stay in the community, directly supporting friends, neighbors, and families in Benton County.
“Every dollar donated helps someone right here at home,” said Robin Martin, Foundation Director. “It’s about lifting each other up and ensuring everyone has access to lifesaving screenings and care.”

In addition to the mammogram clinics, Virginia Gay Hospital encourages everyone to wear pink, share educational resources, and remind loved ones to schedule their annual exam
