Norway woman appointed to Iowa Organic Advisory Council

Stakeholder advisory council will provide feedback and input to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land StewardshipIowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig today announced the formation of the Iowa Organic Advisory Council within the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and appointed seven Iowans to serve on it.A similar Organic Advisory Council existed previously in Iowa Code but was eliminated during the 2024 legislative session following recommendations made by the Boards and Commissions Review Committee.

Vinton Man Sentenced to 15 Years in Federal Prison for Receiving Child Porn

 Brady David Salow              A man who received child pornography over the internet while in a residential facility for a prior child pornography charge was sentenced October 31, 2024, to 15 years in federal prison.             Brady David Salow, age 27, from Vinton, Iowa, received the prison term after an April 25, 2024 guilty plea to one count of receiving child pornography.

Notice was given from Benton County Emergency Management has rescinded the county wide burn ban, effective on Friday, November 1st at 8:00 a.m.

Shellsburg Public Library Hosts Spooky Evening of Games and Treats

The Shellsburg Public Library was buzzing with Halloween spirit on Thursday night as local ghosts, goblins, and costumed kids stopped by for a fun-filled evening. Library Director Marge McDonald welcomed the young visitors, who enjoyed playing a variety of games organized by the library staff.The event concluded with each child receiving a goodie bag, courtesy of the library, sending the little monsters home with treats to remember the night.

Civil Rights groups sue Iowa Secretary of State over potential noncitizen voting

By Robin OpsahlCivil rights groups and immigrant advocates have filed a federal lawsuit against Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate on behalf of naturalized U.S. citizens in Iowa affected by his order to challenge the ballots of 2,022 people listed as potential noncitizens in the 2024 election.The lawsuit calls for Pate to rescind his guidance calling for county auditors to challenge the ballots of Iowa voters who are on a list compiled by the Secretary of State’s office as potential noncitizens.
