VSHS students receive Academic Awards

Vinton-Shellsburg High School students recently received Acadamic Awards for their work last year. Seniors, Juniors and sophomores were recognized for their success in the classroom.

Man injured in Sept. 4 crash dies from injuries

Dennis VanSlyke, 61, of Vinton, died last Thursday, Sept. 21, of injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident on Sept. 4, just west of Vinton. The Benton County Sheriff's Office, along with North Benton Ambulance and the Vinton police and fire departments, responded to a report of an accident on 59th Street, just west of Vinton, where 5th Street becomes 59th at the end of city limits.

Upper Iowa University announces the Dean's List for the 2017 Summer Session. To be honored, a student must have earned a minimum 3.50 grade point average and be enrolled as a full-time student.

Witnesses say three men riding in the cab of this garbage truck went to the hospital by ambulance Tuesday morning. One of the three has died. One man died and two others were injured in a Tuesday morning accident involving a garbage truck and semi on Highway 150, at the intersection of 24th Avenue Drive, four miles north of Vinton.

Eastern Iowa Honor Flight Cancelled Today Due to Fog

The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight regrets to announce the cancellation of Flight #29 which had been scheduled for today (September 19, 2019). This was due to the extremely heavy fog this morning, which prohibited our charter aircraft from landing at the Eastern Iowa Airport this morning to pick up the Veterans and Guardians for the trip to Washington, DC.
