Power outage caused by lightning strike

Placing a tube over the powerlines to protect the worker In a conversation with Kevin Kirchner, the General Manager of the Light Plant he explained that the power outage in Vinton on Sunday was due to a lightning strike. Lightning struck in the area of Celebration Park on 2nd St. Damage was assessed from the ground and crews and equipment were brought to the scene to repair the damage.During outages, calls to the plant cannot be returned nor follow up calls made.

Operation Quick Find for missing girl

An Operation Quick Find has been issued for Alison Kay Harris. Harris is 16 years old and last seen on April 25. She is a white female 5'1" and weighs approximately 115 pounds. She has blonde hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a green t-shirt and black sweatpants. According to reports she ran away from her mother's home in Vinton. She could be in the Urbana or Central City area as well.

Riverview Center works for those affected by Sexual Assault in Iowa

Staff of the Riverview Center visited Benton County to being awareness to April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month Amy Buckley of the Riverview Center, met with the Benton County Supervisors as part of an effort to bring awareness to April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The Riverview Center a nonprofit agency is committed to compassionate client centered care for individuals affected by sexual assault in Iowa. The Center provides free and confidential sexual and domestic assault services to those in need.

Man Who Downloaded Child Porn After Conviction Pleads Guilty

Was residing in a state residential facility and used an employee’sphone to view and download child pornography A man who received child pornography over the internet while in a residential facility for a prior child pornography charge pled guilty today in federal court in Cedar Rapids.             Brady David Salow, age 27, from Vinton, Iowa, was convicted of one count of receiving child pornography.

VGH is aware of notices being sent from Molina Healthcare to patients that their PCP is being changed. Please note the letter is an error! No PCP changes are occurring. VGH is working with Molina to remedy the action.

Secretary Naig Announces Investments in 14 Iowa Urban Water Quality Projects

Belle Plaine is among 14 area urban water projects. The Belle Plaine Wellfield Wetland Restoration Project will receive an investment of $250,000 to build a stormwater wetland at Belle Plaine’s wellfield. This project will improve the water quality of stormwater runoff from 385 acres of rural and urban areas. The completed wetland will have the capability to retain and facilitate the slow release of water from storm events, an important component of reducing the quantity of nutrients in the water.

Former Benton County Auditor, Jill Marlow addressed the Benton County Supervisors during the budget hearing on Tuesday for the county's Fiscal Year 2025. She had several questions for the Board. The hearing is a time for the public to bring their questions to the board concerning the budget. The agenda only allowed 15 minutes for this discussion.
