We are desperate for foster homes or local Rescues for our dogs. There is no electricity, and that means no ventilation. We can not put the dogs outside (dog panels were destroyed). If you are interested in fostering a dog(s), please email dfriendsoftheshelter@yahoo.com
This could easily be a 2 week or more commitment.

Local Crop Damage Meeting To Be Held July 14th
In response to the recent storm damage to crops, Iowa State University Extension will be holding a meeting at the John and Ben Olson Farm site located at the corner of 63rd Street and Highway 218 two and a half miles South of Vinton. The field event will begin at 3:00 p.m.
Jim Fawcett, ISU Extension Field Agronomist and Jim Jensen, ISU Extension Farm Management Specialist will discuss considerations for storm damaged crops and future management decisions.
Virginia Gay Hospital & Clinics Is Open and Providing Care
There are reports circulating area newsrooms that Virginia Gay Hospital & Clinics is closed and transferring patients to other facilities. This information is not correct. Virginia Gay Hospital & Clinics is open and meeting the needs of our patients.
The storm yesterday did cause damage to our facility.

REC requesting limited power usage - Power Restoration Continues
East-Central Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative reports that power was restored to some 2,200 members who were affected that the strong thunderstorms and winds that swept through Benton County early Monday morning.
According to Manager of Operations and Engineering, Steve Marlow, some 1,000 members are still without power this morning.

Updates from the road...
Dean is out and about, and calling with updates of what he sees.
Power is restored in most of downtown. The laundromat is up and running!
There will be a movie tonight, X-Men: First Class. The Palace has power AND AIR CONDITIONING!!
The 4th Street Diner is open 8-5 m-f and is serving meals, also has air!
Fareway is open.
