New ordinance would give city coordinator final say in P & R hiring choices
The Vinton City Council will consider making a significant change in who has the ultimate authority over the Vinton Parks and Recreation Department when it holds its regular meeting this Thursday, May 12.
The council has been asked to consider an ordinance that will take the authority of the Vinton Parks and Recreation Board to hire a director and other personnel and give it to the city coordinator.

The Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District is joining with other communities throughout Iowa this spring to honor its elected school board members during Iowa School Board Recognition Week May 8-13. Teen charged in VSHS bomb threat
Vinton Police were contacted by officials at the Vinton-Shellsburg High School at 1018 a.m. today, reporting that a handwritten bomb threat had been found in a mens room by a student, who immediately reported it to their teacher.
Vinton-Shellsburg School officials immediately initiated an evacuation of the building, and the Vinton Police Department, with the assistance of the Benton County Sheriff's Office, began their investigation.
