The Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP) is designed to provide financial assistance and services to either prevent households from becoming homeless or help those experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed. Come to Wesley UMC 516 2nd Ave in Vinton on Wednesday, April 13 from 9 to noon or 1 to 4pm to see if you qualify for help.

Local veterans, guardians prepare for April 26 Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.
For years, its' been a tradition in the Elwick family. When one of Mike and Cindy's grandchildren turns 12, the Vinton couple takes them to Washington, D.C.
But this year, Cindy is taking the trip with her father, William "Jay" Bolin. She will be his guardian during the April 26 honor flight, which is provided free to honor World War II veterans.

Urbana man faces federal sentence for sex offender registry violation
A convicted, registered sex offender who failed to register with authorities was sentenced today to over a year in federal prison.
David Alden Johnston, 24, from Urbana, received the prison term following his November 18, 2010 guilty plea to one count of failing to register as a sex offender.
