In Danger of Becoming Homeless?
The Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP) is designed to provide financial assistance and services to either prevent households from becoming homeless or help those experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed. Come to Wesley UMC 516 2nd Ave in Vinton on Wednesday, April 13 from 9 to noon or 1 to 4pm to see if you qualify for help.
Aulds receive national Llama breeding award
Aulds’ Lluminous Llamas of Van Horne was awarded the 2011 Small Breeder Award at the prestigious 23rd annual Celebration, LLC, World Futurity Show & Sale held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, April 1-3, 2011. NCCC team Maple 6 is working hard. They are making an undeniable impact at Flatrock YMCA camp in St. Paul, Indiana. Since stepping foot onto the Flatrock YMCA camp, this team is already able to see the effects of their hard work and it is sure to be seen by those who visit. New technology for cell phones keeps customers more informed
With the spring storm season underway, Alliant Energy is letting customers know about new tools to keep them informed during storms, outages, and emergencies.
Now, those customers now have a simple, streamlined tool to report an electrical outage or even see the status of their current situation.
5th Grade Boys Black Baseball Team raise funds by helping folks go Green
On Saturday, March 26th and Tuesday, March 29th, the 5th grade boys black baseball team “teamed up” with Fareway in selling re-useable green bags. All eleven players, along with many coaches and parents, helped educate the patrons of Fareway with reasons to “stay green”. In total, the players sold 325 bags and raised funds for needed equipment and tournament expenses. Vikes of the Week

For years, its' been a tradition in the Elwick family. When one of Mike and Cindy's grandchildren turns 12, the Vinton couple takes them to Washington, D.C.
But this year, Cindy is taking the trip with her father, William "Jay" Bolin. She will be his guardian during the April 26 honor flight, which is provided free to honor World War II veterans.
AmeriCorps Oak 2 team helps VSHS athletics
For three days from March 9th to the 11th, a group of ten members from the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) Oak 2 team located in Vinton came to Vinton-Shellsburg High School to lend a helping hand to the local Vikings and Vikettes.

A convicted, registered sex offender who failed to register with authorities was sentenced today to over a year in federal prison.
David Alden Johnston, 24, from Urbana, received the prison term following his November 18, 2010 guilty plea to one count of failing to register as a sex offender.
Cooling Dancers Enjoy Successful Competition Weekend
62 dancers from the Cooling Dance Center of Vinton competed April 2 and 3 at the Midwest Starz Regional Dance Competition. The event was held at the Marriott Hotel and Convention Center, and featured hundreds of dance routines competing on two stages throughout the two days.
Dancers competed in various styles and age groupings before a panel of three judges in a theatrical setting.
