The deadline for candidates to file for the Sept. 10, school board election passed on Thursday.

The slate of candidates for the ballot is now on record at the Benton County Auditor's Office.

In Vinton-Shellburg, Mike Timmermans will run unopposed for re-election in District 1. Sue Gates and Rob Levis, who were elected together in 2009, are seeking re-election. Bethany Gates is also running in that at-large election.

And in the at-large (to fill vacancy) election, three candidates have filed papers for the seat that Tim Bird recently vacated. Marcia Booth, Kathy Van Steenhuyse and Kyle Schminke are the candidates for that race.

There are no contested elections in Benton Community or Belle Plaine.

Kirkwood Community College Public Measure Z: For the purpose of purchasing instructional equipment, the Board of Trustees of Kirkwood Community College (Merged Area X) is authorized to continue to levy a tax on taxable property with the Merged Area for each of the ten consecutive years commencing with the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2015, which tax shall not exceed six (6) cents per thousand dollars of assessed valuation in any one year, pursuant to Section 260.28, Code of Iowa, 2003.
