News : Hopper descendants hold 41st annual family reunion

41st ANNUAL HOPPER FAMILY REUNION The descendants of Jesse and Gertie Abernathey Hopper gathered for their 41st annual reunion on Sunday, July 28, 2013 in the fellowship room of the First Christian Church in Vinton. Attending were 50 family members and guests who also shared a delicious potluck luncheon. There are currently 185 living descendants of the above-named couple. Mona Hanson was recognized as the eldest family member present and Shaw Losenicky, 15 months old, as the youngest member. Josh and Kristina Carter, and Deb Covington of Rosenberg, Texas, traveled the farthest to attend the gathering. The family members who had missed only 1 of the 41 reunions, Mona Hanson and Evelyn Covington, were honored. There was discussion regarding family members who are performing genealogy research on the Hopper family history and some of their findings. Those present at the reunion were: Joshua and Kristina Carter; Deb Covington, Rosenberg, TX; Mark and Terri Carter of Palo; Duane Covington and Scott Covington of LaPlata, MO; Laurie and Beth Penton of Williamsburg; Nick Klein and Dwight Miller of Waterloo; Amber, Addyson and Riley Covington of Altoona; Greg and Nancy Miller of Ft. Dodge; Evelyn Covington, Jim Covington, Becky Carter, Kristen Hopper-Losenicky and Shaw, Keisha, Jeremy, Miah and Noah Byrne, Jessie, Paula, Devan, Evelyn, Dietrich, Savannah and Timothy Purifoy, Nathan Covington and Floyd and Betty Long of Cedar Rapids; Leah Miller, Vivian Covington, Jack and Pat Hopper, Wade and Vicky Hopper, Randy and Miranda Sellers, and Dell and Mona Hanson of Vinton; and Steve and Taylor Bauer of Brandon; Guests were Bob and Charlene George of Anamosa and Luke Green of Cedar Rapids.
