News : Cyclist faces charges after motorcycle accident; taken by helicopter to hospital

Vinton Police were called to the 1100 block of West 9th Street in Vinton at approximately 8:15 p.m. Saturday evening for a report of a single vehicle motorcycle crash.

Witnesses reported first hearing, and then seeing a motorcycle traveling West on West 9th street from F Avenue at a high rate of speed shortly before the operator lost control of the 2006 Harley Davidson Sportster and laid it on its side in the 1000 block of West 9th Street. The motorcycle continued approximately another 250 feet before coming to a rest in the 1100 block of West 9th Street.

Travis Ockenfels, 26, of Center Point was airlifted by Lifeguard Helicopter directly from the scene of the crash to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City with head injuries. Information about his condition is not available.

Ockenfels' privilege to operate a motor vehicle in Iowa is currently revoked. The crash remains under investigation, and charges are pending.
