The Celebration Park river wall -- which will also serve as a stairway from the park to the river -- will be completed today, said Dan Hatch, the owner of Hatch Grading & Contracting.

Building a wall along a river bank, by stacking 174 blocks of limestone weighing up to 3,000 to 4,000 pounds, is not something that Hatch and his crew have done often.

"We like to try new things," says Hatch, earlier this week. Hatch and his crew worked most of the week at the park, using surveying equipment and a backhoe to measure, dig and place the limestone blocks. There are 32 larger stones for the bottom layers and 142 smaller one that form the wall.

PM August 30, 2013, 2:16 pm Wouldn\'t it be nice if everyone would pitch in to buy the old seed building next to the park and remodel it into a community center where people could use it for large gatherings, weddings, receptions, parties...you could rent the building, at the same time the kids could run in the park...the look of the building detracts from the beauty of the park!
MS August 30, 2013, 10:44 pm I\'ve had the same idea, only more along the lines of a restoration than a remodeling. It has the potential to be a wonderful venue not only for the community but for visitors as well.
CG August 31, 2013, 12:27 pm It\'s to bad that they couldn\'t do the wall all the way down to Rec Center. Looks great.
