The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two vehicle collision which happened at the intersection of 21st Ave and 71st St one mile south of Van Horne at 8:30 a.m.

Betty Nolan, age 81, from rural Van Horne, was driving a 2010 Ford Edge westbound on 71st St and had stopped at the stop sign at 21st Ave. Nolan waited for a northbound car to go through the intersection then pulled out onto 21st Ave into the path of a southbound school bus.

Margaret Wolfe, age 59, from Newhall, was driving the 2007 IHC bus, saw the car pulling out and swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision. Both vehicles collided in the intersection with the Ford Edge coming to rest on 21st Ave and the IHC school bus going into the west ditch and coming to rest in a box culvert nose down.

There was one student on the bus, a 16 year old male from Newhall.

All three were transported to the Hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.

Van Horne First Responders and Fire, North Benton Ambulance and Blairstown Ambulance all assisted at the scene.
