The year the Benton County Conservation Department has been busy working on the following items:

- Construction of a new conservation shop at Rodgers Park and removal of the old moldy ranger residence and garage that was damaged in the 2011 FEMA incident.
- Completion of two Iowa Living Roadways prairie roadway restoration grants at Rodgers Park and Wildcat Bluff Park.
- Completion of three Trees for Kids Grants.
- Building a new pavilion at Wildcat Bluff with funds raised from their foundation.
- Re-clearing several miles of existing trails and resigning these areas with the help of the local NCCC groups.
- Adding Equestrian use to Winegar Lake Park and solidifying the trail route with the assistance of their volunteer group.
- Building new trails at Rodgers Park and adding to the outdoor classroom and Nature Center with the support of our foundation.
- Completing grants for the Old Creamery Nature Trail and supporting the volunteer group surrounding its development.
- Refurbishing & creating new cabins for rentals at Winegar Lake, Hannen Lake & Rodgers Park locations.
- Re-grading roads and expanding camping pads where possible to enhance aesthetics.
- Removing old & unmaintained structures for public safety and making plans to replace in the future if fiscally possible.
- Re-working our website, & all social media outlets to enhance promotional opportunities.
- Providing new and expanded program opportunities as the Nature Center grows.
- Finally we have been working on our second newsletter to ensure everyone interested in recreational opportunities in Benton Counties Parks is aware.
Our staff has worked very hard on these projects and will continue to do so, for the citizens of Benton County. Our mission is to improve the quality of sustainable natural resources that will provide educational opportunities, safe recreational environments, and the protection of Benton County’s natural heritage.
