News : Historical Preservation Committee to discuss courthouse clock repair today

Beautiful, but non-functional: The Benton County Courthouse clock has not worked for years.

When the Benton County Historical Preservation Commission meets at 1 p.m. today in the Vinton Library, the members will learn what it would cost to repair the four-faced clock atop the Benton County Courthouse.

The clock has not worked for years, and some members of the Commission are interested in finding out how much it would cost to make it functional.

Benton County Supervisor Terry Hertle has been contacting clocksmiths and will present some estimates during the Commission meeting today.

Commission member Geri Davis said the group is checking into both grants and local fund-raising efforts to help cover the cost of the project.

The public is invited to attend today's meeting at 1:00 pm at the Library.
