The pink church will soon be a bright white, and the pastor is very happy for the change.
Faith Baptist Church at the intersection of D Avenue and 10th Street is the site of a painting project and other minor construction this week. A group of volunteers from Chandler's Chapel Baptist Church in Bonneville, Mississippi are helping Pastor Greg Collins and the Faith Baptist family.
The biggest change is the paint job. A coat of white primer has begun to cover the pale pink paint that has been there for years. The wheelchair ramp is also under renovation, as members from the two churches spent part of Monday morning removing the old plywood so it can be replaced.
Rev. Greg Smart of Chandler's Chapel said a group of 24 people was en route to South Dakota on their first such mission trip. They planned to stop briefly in Vinton along their way to South Dakota. But then, said Rev. Smart, they realized that there were too many people for the work in South Dakota. Smart's group stayed in Vinton, where they plan to spend the week helping Faith Baptist.
Rev. Smart said that while the trip is the first such mission for his church, he hopes it will become an annual project.
